Demons arose from the actions of the angel Lucifer. Lucifer invaded the Repository of Life, corrupting the vessels of non-angelic sapience, and waged a war in Heaven. As punishment for his actions, Lucifer and all the angels with him were cast down into Hell, converted into demons on the way down. Although Hell was initially a prison for them, a being known as Satan, the solid embodiment of evil and first naturally-created demon in existence, formed as a parasite that latched itself onto Lucifer, using him to take over Hell. At the same time, more demonic races began to form. The one of the first demons to come into existence was Legion, who awoke as Hell's flora and fauna sprouted around him. Shortly afterwards, demons representing the deadly sins arose, and their essence that emitted from their creation spawned races that were linked to them. Under Satan, the demons were organized into armies that launched invasions of the Multiverse, only to be stopped by angelic forces, of which [[Slayer]] was a commander of. After being forced back into Hell, Legion, now a powerful composite life form, took over Hell. He reorganized Hell into an industrialized realm to rival the power of Heaven, forcefully subjugating all the demonic races, and even destroyed the demon lord known as the Skinwalker. Many demons who refused to join Legion were forcefully converted into [[cyborg]] slaves, while those who joined willingly were given power or enlisted in Legion's cybernetic army. Under Legion, the demons led multiversal invasions that resulted in much destruction and shifts of balance. Industrialized megacities and infrastructure began to dominate Hell's surface, stretching far into its caverns. However, Legion was ultimately cast back into Hell, releasing enough energy to destabilize the realm. In the destabilization and rearrangement of Hell back into mainly natural geography, many demons were displace or killed. In the aftermath, the demonic races split into civil war over who would hold dominance in Hell, ending with multiple kingdoms, none of which held true dominance in Hell. While Legion's faction was reorganized under him during his resurgence, it remains its own power, and among the most technologically advanced in Hell. Demons continue to seep into and influence the Multiverse, whether it be by possessing mortals, invading worlds, or trying to usurp Celestial societies. It is known that during Earth's Cold War, multiple demons either posed as or were otherwise influencing government officials in both the United States and Soviet Union, which caused various escalations in the conflict and acts of wrong from both sides. Earlier in Earth's history, they influenced and even supported the Nazi regime to some degree.

Demons, like angels, have levels of technological advancements that can surpass Multiversal levels. However, after Legion, only a few races appear to keep these advancements, mainly the cyborg demons of the Legion of Sin. Bat demons and Striders appear to hold some Legion-era technological advancements as well, while most other demons reverted to medieval technology mixed with rudimentary biotech and some analog workings. Some, such as the Pigs and Hounds, are very primitive, functioning as hunter-gatherers, while the Pain Demons, Skinwalkers, Shadow Demons, and Watching Ones possess no known technology. Demons are known to exhibit traits many would deem evil, be prone to violence and anger, and view mortals in a poor light. Their cultures seem to be those of dominance, set on ruling even their fellow demons and subjugating them to torment. However, each race and kingdom appears to have its own differences. Each race that was spawned from the essence of a deadly sin seems to embody and exalt that sin above all else, and in different forms, often used to choose their ruler. Among the races, only the Pain Demons are known to torture the Sinners sent into Hell. Shadow Demons are commonly conscripted in mass quantities by demonic kingdoms as soldiers, most commonly seen with Legion, who had hordes of them under his command. Many demons also attempt to escape Hell, often for nothing more than their own benefits. Although demons seem to be naturally inclined towards evil and hold hatred against all holy things, they are capable of forming their own conscious and thoughts on the subjects, and changing the ways they act to some degree, usually after entering the Multiverse, and usually after being defeated in battle by a righteous being in the Multiverse. Most demons do not answer to Satan anymore, although most still fear him, and many are conscripted by him. The demons who became Deadly Sins took on the names of the Sins, and are known to strongly embody them.

Demons are a race of unholy entities from Hell. Due to Hell's extramultiversal nature, demons are unaffected by different timelines.

Description

Demons, like angels, can vary wildly in physical appearance. While most are immune to mortal illnesses, some races are still at least somewhat susceptible to alien toxins. While demons can reproduce naturally, at least one race of sentient demons is incapable of sexually reproducing, and demons can also be created from the souls of very evil or powerful sinners. Sinners who become demons will gain demonic traits and a demonic appearance, although they can keep any powers they had in life. Angels who fall, whether it be forced or due to their own sin, will also become demons. Because of this, demons can resemble almost every mortal and immortal species. Demons are known to have many traits and abilities above that of humans and other mortals, including strength, durability, and most notably their ability of flight, which is achieved through wing-based graviton control matrices and not sheer wing power, which would be too little to lift their bodies. Demons are able to sense and perceive energies and other stimuli that most mortals can't detect, such as Holy Energy. They can also utilize the Unholy Energy within their bodies to create hellfire or energy constructs, blasts, and auras, as well as channel in ambient Unholy Energy from both the environment and a direct connection to the Flow, although the latter tends to drain their strength. Demonic power within the Multiverse is often linked to the unholy side of the Flow, and thus, destabilization in the Flow can affect them. When powered up by strong amounts of Unholy Energy, demons are known to be bathed in hellfire. Due to their Unholy physiology, holy energy, especially when discharged in intense amounts as an attack, is harmful to them. If killed, their demonic essence will reform in Hell as a whirling storm of Unholy Energy, which will eventually condense back into a corporeal body, allowing the demon to be reborn, sometimes stronger, and sometimes with a memory loss. This process could take a few decades to billions of years. This appears to follow similar rules as the angelic rebirth process, for reasons unknown, potentially designed by Hell itself, absorbing the last pieces of angelic essence from the falling Lucifer and twisting it around. Their physical corpse can be reanimated through cybernetics or other means, but will deteriorate into skeletal forms if done. The same way angels can fall, demons can ascend if they reject Hell and its doctrines and accept a righteous path, but the process can only be completed by a boost of angelic essence, which can be freely emitted by an angel who is willing or replicated through angelic technology. In contrast to angels, demons have numerous sentient humanoid races, most of whom have names that are mere conjectures. These races include Reds, Bat Demons, Goat Demons, Bull Demons, Crow Demons, Sloth Demons, Dragon Demons, Pig Demons, Hound Demons, Lust Demons, Shadow Demons, Pain Demons, Psychic Demons, Magma Demons, Mole Demons, Rock Demons, Striders, and Fallen Angels. The Bulls, Sloths, Dragons, Pigs, Lust Demons, and Crows are known to be the races that represent Wrath, Sloth, Pride, Gluttony, Lust, and Greed respectively, with Envy's race potentially being the Mole Demons. The most commonly seen race of demons are simply referred to as Reds, resembling red-skinned horned humans with black eyes and white pupils, along with black feathered wings. A sub-race of this group is known to have reddish bat-like wings instead, and another sub-race has insectoid wings instead, but otherwise have no differences. Adult reds have a wingspan of about 6-7'. Natural-born reds have wings that grow with them. Demonic races with animal-like names resemble the animals they are named after, and can rarely achieve flight. Some have unique traits, such as the Bulls' near-indestructibility, although this does not render them undefeatable. Striders are tall, flightless humanoids with their lower legs covered by a rock-like armored shell, who consume lava for sustenance. Magma demons, resembling bulky featureless humanoids made of rock, while displaying some level of intelligence, are often classified as non-sentients. Likewise, Rock Demons appear to be rock-like humanoids, often with the same intellect. They are ruled over by the more intelligent Mole Demons, which appear to be humanoids with some mole-like features that can carve through solid rock. Fallen Angels have their own further sub-races. Those who never intended to betray Heaven, yet are forced to fall, are known to have grey skin, mental instability, and the ability to make non-demonic objects deteriorate. Those who fall willingly, or who are cast down due to their willing betrayal of Heaven, are known to simply become like Reds. However, very few do not fall in line with other demonic races. For instance, the archangel Abaddon was converted into a great living emptiness at the lowest point in Hell, becoming the Pit at the base of the Chasm. Psychic Demons are poor at physical combat, but excel in psychic abilities, including remotely possessing a mortal through negotiating with their mind, bearing purple skin and a third eye in their forehead, along with four large horns and a spike-tipped tail. Shadow demons are the most numerous demon type, often lacking legs and high intelligence. Lust Demons are predominantly female, and have minor shapeshifting abilities, along with tendrils in place of wings, which are used as mass reserves for shapeshifting. Pain Demons are tall, grotesque abominations, bearing a mouth in their chest, a mouth making up their entire face, and cybernetic-like tools on their fingers. Pain Demons are among the strongest demonic races in existence, and often have tumorous growths that grow more mouths and eyes, and also have the ability to utilize mortal bodies in pain to manifest their forms in realspace, tearing apart the mortal in the process. They cannot reproduce, but rather, grow out of the ground in the Chasm as a manifestation of pain, and as their name says, they are in constant excruciating pain. Non-humanoid demonic races include Watching Ones, who resemble massive sunflower starfish with many eyes and mouths around a central cyclopedic eye, feeding off of minerals in Hell's ceiling, and Skinwalkers, a race of formless demons capable of forceful possessions that were once one entity. Some demons do not appear to belong to any known race, such as a metal-like demon, and the demon lord Cereb, who resembles a giant brain with many eyes. Others, such as Legion, are the only member of their race to become sentient. Demon lords, unlike archangels, are not a single race with members from other races in their ranks, but rather, they are entirely a collection of members from different races who ascended to that level. Demon lords still resemble their race of origin, but often gain some new physical traits, along with increased power. Legion was known to rival the power of Slayer, able to hurl planets and moons at him during their early battles, and is the only demon to date to be able to assimilate other demons into his composite body. Satan, being the first naturally-created demon, appears to be the embodiment of evil, and does not belong to any other race. The race of Deadly Sins appears to rival the angelic race of Heavenly Virtues, although they appear to have been formed naturally, and display similar power levels. All demonic races appear to be heavily resistant to, if not completely immune to, lava, fire, and other forms of extreme heat, although energies held behind heat, such as energy weapons or even some forms of hellfire, can still damage them.
