Sadness, also known as Mr. Sadness, is the embodiment of sadness in all of its forms, as his name implies. He appears randomly in any stage of the game, usually in an isolated area. He usually appears sitting on a chair or stool, looking bored. Attacking Sadness will cause the player and their companions to feel too sad to fight. Sadness will then leave, stating that he is sad he was attacked. Once he is gone, the feelings of sadness will leave the player. When he appears, he will ask the player if they want a free balloon. If they accept, he gives them one, which will then make them feel very sad. The balloons can be used as a sort of weapon, as popping them near mortal enemies that can feel sadness will make them too sad to fight. When the player is under the effects of his sadness, their view goes into grey scale.
Sadness is the embodiment of sadness. He is an abstract concept that can exist throughout almost all the cosmos, as sadness extends through the 3rd Dimension and even the 5th Dimension. He cannot leave the Multiverse, like all other Abstract Concepts. He has only existed in physical form for the past 3 million years, although he has been in existence ever since sadness first entered the cosmos. He was always friendless and alone, even among other Abstract Concepts.
Sadness bears the form of a humanoid man in a black suit. However, instead of a head, dozens of multi-colored balloons come out of his empty suit neck.

- Sadness is always sad. This is a trait that can vary among Abstract Concepts, as Terror Vision is fear but fears nothing, yet Sadness is sadness and is always sad.
